| To investigate the activity patterns and habitat selection characteristics of Elaphodus cephalophus in Leigongshan National Nature Reserve, this study conducted infrared camera monitoring using a stratified random sampling method across different forest types and elevation gradients within the reserve from December 2018 to April 2021. A total of 133 effective camera sites were deployed, accumulating 27 725 camera-days of monitoring and yielding 525 valid independent records of E.cephalophus. Data were analyzed using the relative abundance index (RAI), chi-square tests, and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that the RAI of E.cephalophus in the reserve was 7. 26. Forest type, season, and elevation gradient all had statistically effects on the activity of E.cephalophus, with season and elevation showing extremely significant effects (P<0. 01). Correlation analysis indicated that forest type, season, and elevation gradient were all negatively correlated with the capture rate of E.cephalophus (Pearson coefficient<0). Specifically, season and elevation exhibited an extremely significant negative correlation with the capture rate (P<0.01), while the correlation with forest type was not significant. In terms of activity rhythm, E.cephalophus exhibited the highest activity intensity in summer, followed by spring and autumn, with a marked decline in winter. Regarding habitat selection, the RAI showed an increasing trend with elevation, with higher utilization intensity in high-altitude areas compared to low-altitude ones. Among different forest types, the activity frequency was relatively higher in coniferous broad-leaved mixed forests and deciduous broad-leaved forests. The findings of this study provide a scientific basis for establishing a monitoring system and formulating conservation strategies for E.cephalophus in the reserve. |
